Waze: The Alpaca Farm Mitzpe Ramon
At the main entrance of Mitzpe Ramon, turn right and straight right again until the end according to the signs for the Alpaca Farm.
When you enter the farm, turn straight left towards the glamping area right next to the alpaca farm.
Background on the alpaca farm
A unique weekend experience, on a farm like no other in Israel, in a perfect location and with cute and addictive animals originating in South America in general.
How it all began
This special place was started more than 30 years ago, the owners – Ilan and Naama. They traveled the Andes mountains in Argentina and fell in love with these cute alpacas and llamas. When they returned to Israel, they chose to establish an alpaca farm and llamas in Makhtesh Ramon. The location of the alpaca farm was also planned in advance and is located at an altitude of 870 meters above sea level, which suits the Alpic and Lamic climates (who will feel at home). The chosen location has mild weather most of the year. Over the years, the farm has grown and today beyond the experience of visiting the place (which is also highly recommended, even if it is for a visit that is “on the way”), it also offers various accommodation units. There are B&Bs, suites that look stunning, a huge family pedestal and also a glamping tent complex where we chose to do our especially alpeki weekend.
Glamping at the alpaca farm
Adjacent to the alpaca stables is the glamping complex. A bounded area of 10 glamping tents, each tent on a wooden platform. There is a common area of toilet and shower (with always hot water), a large well equipped kitchen, a campfire area, and also WiFi. The glamping tent is a very large yuta tent, about 30 square meters. The tent has a double bed plus 2 single beds if needed, a cute dresser, power sockets and a hoof with a private seating area at the entrance to the tent and also potted plants 🙂
Right next to the glamping area there is a huge geodesic dome – a pedestal of an area over 300 square meters. The dome is designed for outdoor gatherings, activities, workshops and performances. We loved doing our coffee break there.
There are other animals on the farm
On a tour of the place you will find other animals – there are other friends. Horses, donkeys, goat species (tiny mini goats), chickens and ducks, if my memory does not deceive me there was also a camel in the place – in short, it is a very diverse farm. You can meet alpacas and llamas roaming freely around the farm – very close to us. At first I was a little worried about them spitting or biting, but it went by quickly and I stroked a name full of alpacas.
**Alpacas make such a funny sound when they’re hungry or angry, so after hearing their voice it’s time to take a step back.
Attractions to do in and around Alpaca Farm
In terms of attractions in the place, there are many, it is best to check with the farm before arriving, you can find:
• A walk along the farm paths and meet all the cute animals in the place, some walking right next to us
• You can go hiking in the surroundings, we went to see the sunset from a view of the mountain
• Horse riding, I realized there is a trip to the crater rim – we will try next time
• “PicnicLama ” – It’s super cute, just go picnicking with a llama in the hills around the farm
• Feed the alpacas and llamas from the palm of your hand – you receive a bag of food at the entrance to the farm
• The star experience at night is just wow, worth lifting your head to the sky and admiring the beauty.
Interesting retreats and vacations
In addition to spending time with the cute animals, from time to time interesting events are held on the farm. You will find interesting retreats and workshops, yoga classes, riding vacations, spiritual retreats and much more. It’s worth checking the farm’s website before arriving. Or on the farm’s charming Instagram – click here
Some tips before coming to the alpaca farm
1.Please note, yes, the tent is *glamp*ping, but know that it’s camping for all intents and purposes.
2. The toilet and shower are of the whole complex. The same goes for the kitchen, food and drink must be arranged in advance. There is nowhere to buy food there, there is a kitchen and that’s it. The kitchen is very well equipped, and you can prepare your own food – it has pots and pans and is very clean there. Bring with you utensils for food, plates, glasses (preferably not sharp).
3. If you’re a fan of Arak/beers, it’s best to bring your own in advance.
Final words about the alpaca farm experience
I highly recommend coming to the alpaca farm and especially the experience of starting the morning with coffee together with these special animals. Even if it’s not sleeping on the farm and only a few hours visit between the animals – highly recommended. Such an atmosphere of calm and tranquility in the place, cozy. I will for sure come back again.
