Background on Nahal Hadera Park

Nahal Hadera Park is the end of the Hadera streem, which begins in eastern Samaria and ends into the sea at the Rabin power station in Hadera.

** A small interim note, the stream does not always empty all the way to the sea and sometimes in hot summer it ends about 5 meters from the sea.

The Hadera streem flows through the park throughout the year. Over the stream, there is a huge string bridge of 15 meters and dozens of meters long. There is the Israel National Trail, whose walkers enjoy the bridge as part of the trail. In the park there is a playground for the little ones – a fun and invested garden, there are walking paths along the stream, a small eucalyptus grove and seating areas for picnics.

Nahal Hadera Park has become famous in recent years mainly because of the sharks attraction observed there. When you cross the bridge and turn left to shore, with great luck, you may get to watch sharks (especially femals sharks) coming to have fun in the hot currents of the the power station.

If you want to see the sharks, you should come mainly during the winter months. And the quality of viewing them depends on weather and sea conditions. This means that if there are high waves, and the visibility of the water is not good, you may not see anything. Know that normal viewing from the beach allows you to see shark fins from a distance. It’s a good idea to bring binoculars to see clearly. The types of sharks that reach the estuary are mainly the fin shark (2.5 meters) and the lark shark (up to 4 meters) – both are very similar and difficult to distinguish.

For more information about sharks at the Hadera power station, I recommend checking the project’s website.

Nahal Hadera Park in the past

In the past, the Hadera stream was among the most polluted streams in the coastal streams (similar to the Yarkon stream). After significant rehabilitation, and after the flow of sewage into the stream was stopped, the park was developed with the huge cooperation of the Hadera Municipality, the Electric Company and all kinds of other large bodies that make sure that the park is well-kept, pleasant and not as polluting as in the past.
