Desert winter blossoms in Sinai
Desert winter blossoms in Sinai

Before the post, a brief lesson in geography. Those who think of Sinai automatically speak of the coastline. It doesn’t matter if it’s huts or hotels, 90% is about the coastline area. There are some stunning and very special places away from the coastline and more towards the mountains interior desert. My recommendation as someone who is sensitive to cold – in the winter season stay overnight on the coastline, not go high into the mountains. You have to take into account that in the mountains the temperature is very low and it also snows and there is a fear of floods just like there is in the winter here.

My recommendation is to stay at the coastline – Taba / Nuweiba / Dahab / Sharm… And make a few hours hike to the mountains, if there is snow there. What’s more, during the day the temperatures are higher (still freezing), so a few hours’ hike to the snow closes a corner. If there is no snow, I will wait for another time for a warmer season it is worth hiking there, net because of my sensitivity to cold.

I understood from my friends that after the snow there are stunning waterfalls and streams near the Monastery of Santa Caterina – still freezing but stunning

So let’s say you missed the snow in Sinai, rest assured that all the water is now flowing in spectacular streams and waterfalls.

Snow in Sinai

Yes it exists and it’s perfect. At this time of year (January – February) there is snow for a few days at the Monastery of Santa Catarina. The monastery, located high in the mountains, changes its colors to white and is completely covered with a layer of snow. A stunning experience that the old lovers of Sinai (like my dear father) remember very well from the days when Sinai was ours (Israel’s) and they served in the Israeli army there.

Thanks toHosni for these stunning photos, really special photos

Anyone who follows the blog knows that I love blooms, even in Sinai the almond blossoms this season, you might find it.

On the coastline, the temperature during the day is certainly comfortable, and long clothes thin are enough, at night it is cool and you need to dress warmer. In any case, it’s always a good idea to check the weather before arriving. So after checking all the groups/sites/Ministry of Health for the latest COVID-19 testing procedures, it’s time to plan the winter vacation that is just a drive away.

Fast forward to the treats in winter Sinai

In general, I visit Sinai in the winter about once every two years. Because it’s cold at night, I prefer to stay in a hotel or in a Husha because of the isolation of the cold – I’m relatively diverse among them. The guide to winter Sinai is planning a weekend vacation – maybe a weekend and a little more. A vacation that will be fun and especially full of new energies and full of massages.

Since I come to Sinai quite a bit, I learned to save costs. I come on a tight budget so sometimes I will choose to stay in a Husha instead of a hotel (not always, but usually). You can take a Husha and take taxis during the day to the spa in the surrounding hotels. Personally, I really like Sammy’s Husha at Adam Camp, in the middle of Ras-a Stan’s coastline. The Husha are secluded, with shower and toilet, great guys and good food.

First day: Taba Heights

Taba Heights Hotel, or in its full and long name – the InterContinental Taba Heights Resort, has a stunning spa with a unique look. At the spa you will find a range of treatments, jacuzzis, saunas, steam rooms and an indoor pool. Nicely decorated in Turkish bath style. A slightly different relaxation experience that Sinai has to offer.

Second day: “Namtha Spa” in Nuweiba

Quaint and cute place in Nuweiba, not fancy but it has its own charm. It’s called Namitha Spa and you can find spa treatments and a Jacuzzi with a relaxed and pleasant experience. Highly recommend Sinai in the winter time.

Third day: Yoga and meditation in Dahab

Before returning home to our stressed country, I recommend a short refresher for our souls. A daily yoga and meditation workshop in Dahab with Sara – Yoga, Meditation & Freediving that definitely does the trick. There are not always workshops and it is worth checking her page beforehand. But you don’t have to only with her, there are many more workshops and retreats worth taking part in just before returning to Israel. If there is demand in the matter I will gladly add more info.
